L-3 Link opens C-17 Training System site supporting pilots, loadmasters, maintenance technicians

ARLINGTON, Texas, 3 Dec. 2014. L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) has opened and is supporting a new C-17 Training System (TS) site in Memphis, Tenn., that will train aircrews to operate the U.S. Air Force’s transport aircraft.

ARLINGTON, Texas, 3 Dec. 2014. L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) has opened and is supporting a new C-17 Training System (TS) site in Memphis, Tenn., that will train aircrews to operate the U.S. Air Force’s transport aircraft.

As prime contractor for the U.S. Air Force’s C-17 TS program, L-3 Link will support training of the 164th Airlift Wing’s C-17 pilots, loadmasters, and maintenance engine run technicians. Annually, L-3 Link will deliver more than 1,100 classes and support 1,300 simulator training missions at the Memphis C-17 TS installation.

“L-3 will provide comprehensive and cost-effective training that directly supports the combat readiness of Memphis Air National Guard C-17 crewmembers,” explains Lenny Genna, president of L-3 Link. “Our team is dedicated to providing the best training possible in support of the 164th Airlift Wing’s global air mobility mission.”

Pilots, loadmasters, and maintenance engine run technicians will receive refresher, upgrade, and currency training provided by L-3 Link instructors using classroom and hands-on operations training in a realistic C-17 Weapon Systems Trainer and a C-17 Loadmaster Station Trainer. In addition, L-3 Link and C-17 TS team member AAI Corp. will provide contractor logistics support and maintenance of the site’s training devices.

The C-17 TS is the largest aircrew training system within the U.S. Air Force’s Air Mobility Command, with aircrew and maintenance training conducted at 13 installations in the U.S. and one at the Royal Australian Air Force Base in Amberley, Australia. Annually, the C-17 TS trains more than 3,500 pilots and loadmasters using 23 variants of aircrew and maintenance training devices.
