PHOENIX, 31 March 2015. Engineers at Northrop Grumman Corp. needed multifunction displays for a digital cockpit upgrade from the U.S. Army’s UH-60L to the UH-60V configuration Black Hawk helicopters. They found their solution at L-3 Aviation Products’ Display Systems (L-3 DS) business.

L-3 DS will provide its newest-generation 10.4-inch digital electronic instrument displays for the UH-60V cockpit, replacing older analog gauges. The Northrop Grumman system virtually replicates the newer UH-60M pilot-vehicle interface, providing a common training environment.

L-3’s solution has already been demonstrated through a flight test on a UH-60L helicopter. The displays are smaller, weigh less, and require less power than legacy displays.

“We are honored to be chosen by Northrop Grumman to be a teammate on this critical UH-60V program to prolong the life of the platform,” Bruce Coffey, president of L-3 DS, explains. “Our multi-function displays have been fielded on multiple fixed- and rotary-wing platforms. This next-generation display is based on proven technology, affordability and reliability.”

More than 750 aircraft are expected to be modified under the UH-60V digital cockpit upgrade.
