HAIFA, Israel, 25 Sept. 2015. Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ:ESLT) won a roughly $70 million contract to supply intelligence integrated systems based on Hermes 900 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and an intelligence gathering system for homeland security applications in Latin America.

"Since establishing the ISTAR Division, we have witnessed a growing demand for solutions combing a range of intelligence in-house technologies, and we are pleased to be able to supply our customers with our cutting-edge systems, creating a power multiplier," says Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) Division.

Hermes 900 is Elbit’s next-generation, multirole, medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) UAS. It features over-the-horizon, persistent multi-mission, multi-payload capabilities with payload carrying capacity of 350 kilograms. It is capable of performing missions for area dominance, persistent intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR). Hermes900 also can perform ground support and maritime patrol missions, and offers the capability for integrated multi-platform, multi-sensor operation.

Based on the heritage of over 300,000 operational flight hours of the Hermes450 UAS, the Hermes900 employs identical building blocks using a larger air vehicle with nearly double the performance. Hermes900 incorporates flexible multi-payload configurations employing standard and long-range EO/IR/Laser, SAR/GMTI & MPR, COMINT/DF, COMINT GSM, CoMMJAM, ELINT, EW, hyperspectral systems, large area scanning systems, wide area persistent surveillance, and other payloads. Mission management is performed in an autonomous manner via the Hermes ground control system (GCS) designed to control combined Hermes 900 and Hermes 450 missions. Hermes900 can perform two concurrent missions from the same GCS using two ground data terminals (GDTs).
