U.S. Air Force selects Boeing to provide F-15 EPAWSS electronic warfare suite

ST. LOUIS, 1 Oct. 2015. U.S. Air Force officials needed new, advanced electronic warfare capabilities to better counter threats and protect air crews in the F-15tacticalfighter aircraft designed to gain and maintain air supremacy in aerial combat. They found their solution, issuing a $4 billion contract to Boeing [NYSE:BA], which will serve as the prime contractor for the U.S. Air Force’s Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System (EPAWSS) program.

“Warfighters of today and tomorrow need the latest in jamming, targeting, infrared threat detection and enhanced decoy capabilities,” affirms Mike Gibbons, vice president, Global Strike Boeing F-15 programs. “EPAWSS will ensure the F-15 is relevant and dominant through 2040 and beyond.”

The new threat detection system will be installed on more than 400 F-15Es and F-15Cs, replacing the Tactical Electronic Warfare System (TEWS).

“As we look at future threats, enhanced electronic warfare is more essential than ever to improve overall survivability,” says Lt. Col. James Parslow, U.S. Air Force F-15 EPAWSS program manager, Fighter/Bombers Directorate, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center. “We look forward to adding this next-generation capability to enhance the air superiority mission of the F-15.”

Boeing engineers at the company’s Defense, Space & Security division in St. Louis will perform work on the contract. Boeing officials have selected BAE Systems, with headquarters in Arlington, Va., as the subcontractor to develop EPAWSS.
