Objective Interface upgrades ORBexpress 3.0 based on F-35, NSA security evaluation feedback

HERNDON, Va., 10 Dec. 2015. Software engineers at Objective Interface Systems (OIS), a provider of high-performance, real-time, and embedded advanced integration solutions in Herndon, Va., have upgraded the company’s ORBexpress security-evaluated communications middleware based on feedback from multiple independent organizations, including the National Security Agency (NSA) in the U.S. Objective Interface announced today ORBexpress 3.0, the world’s first security-evaluated middleware.

Officials involved in the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter program, the world's largest defense program, completed a security evaluation and in-depth analysis of ORBexpress. OIS software engineers have incorporated the evaluated changes it made to ORBexpress, based on that security evaluation and feedback from multiple organizations, into the generally available ORBexpress product. As a result, developers across a variety of different industries can now take advantage of the security-hardened architecture of ORBexpress.

Using an evaluated communications middleware will save programs significant time and money by making it easier and faster to develop and certify secure systems using evaluated high-performance commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) communications middleware, officials say.

ORBexpress 3.0 also provides improved support for multicore processors with weak memory reference models, making it easier for developers to write multi-threaded applications that can seamlessly take advantage of true parallel execution.

ORBexpress is a fast, small-footprint framework for interprocess communication in real-time, embedded, or enterprise cloud computing systems. Based on the open standard Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), the ORBexpress family of ORBs with language mappings for C++, Ada, C#, Java, and VHDL are available on a wide combination of microprocessors, operating systems, and compilers.
