RICHMOND, BC, 16 Dec. 2015. Officials at MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA; TSX:MDA), a global communications and information company, have signed a multimillion dollar contract with DigitalGlobe Inc. to provide international ground stations with upgrades to receive and process imagery and data directly from DigitalGlobe's WorldView-4 satellite and existing satellite constellation.

WorldView-4, scheduled to launch in September 2016, will deliver multi-spectral, high-resolution optical imagery.

MDA previously developed and integrated the DigitalGlobe ground stations into existing customer systems around the world. The WorldView-4 upgrades will maximize the advantages of MDA's modular multi-satellite ground station infrastructure and rapid upgrade capability. The ground station upgrades will also allow customers to receive and process near real-time data from the RADARSAT-2 synthetic aperture radar satellite, providing an integrated source for electro-optical and radar imagery capabilities.

MDA's design for mobile and fixed ground stations provides operators with local control, satellite data reception, and the option to process data in near-real-time or send it to archive for future use.

MDA and DigitalGlobe have partnered to develop and deploy WorldView ground station solutions since 2006.

MDA is a global communications and information company providing operational solutions to commercial and government organizations worldwide. MDA's business is focused on markets and customers with strong repeat business potential, primarily in the Communications sector and the Surveillance and Intelligence sector. In addition, the company conducts a significant amount of advanced technology development. MDA's established global customer base is served by more than 4,800 employees operating from 11 locations in the United States, Canada, and internationally.
