“We see more and more Request for Proposals (RFPs) involving commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware in safety-critical applications. But we also see requirements for safety and security. So we are looking forward to hearing about the needs and expectations of our customers in terms of cyber security/vulnerability,” says Hervé Garchette, director of business development and strategic alliances at Creative Electronic Systems (CES) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Garchette continues:
“We have just launched two new products. The first one is a processor XMC based on the NXP QorIQ T2080 which complements our product line of Certifiable COTS boards. The second one is a 3U OpenVPX single board computer based on Intel Core i7 5th Gen, including built-in video capture. The latter allows for building a complete video application with high processing power within a single 3U VPX slot and is another example of what we do in terms of size, weight, and power (SWaP) optimization. These two boards are part of our family of SRUs available to populate the payload of ROCK-2; our modular certifiable COTS mission computer. We are excited to share with our visitors the wide range of applications that our portfolio can cover.
“With our family of certifiable COTS boards and systems we have a comfortable base to address unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and ground station applications as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications in general. With this highly modular and flexible architecture we see other opportunities that we can address with minor adaptations. We are now looking at the utility computer market and other markets will follow.
“We are engaged in the course for multi-core, safety-critical applications with different partners and with a selection of hardware. We believe the NXP QorIQ T2080 to be the avionic industry platform of choice to develop multi-core, safety-critical applications. We are excited to see how our industry will evolve as we are everyday getting closer to finally having safety critical multi-core airborne applications running for real.”
