FARNBOROUGH, England, 15 July 2016. Day two of Farnborough International Airshow 2016 (FIA16) in England closed with a jaw-dropping flying display of the F-35 military jet and the order book at US$59.7 billion – including 380 aircraft, 309 engines, and $2.5 billion in products and services recorded in the exhibit halls.

Among the notable deals finalized at FIA are:

Virgin Atlantic concluding its purchase of 12 Airbus A350-1000 commercial jet airliners,

the U.K. government confirming the purchase of 50 Apache Helicopters and 9 Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft,

and AirAsia signing up for 100 Airbus A380neo fuel-efficient commercial jets.

“The forecast for both the weather and orders have been un-predictable,” says Farnborough International Commercial Director Amanda Stainer. Day one closed abruptly with the down-pouring of rain, which caused flooding in the exhibit halls and prompted show organizers to cancel the flying display, cut power to the exhibit halls, and evacuate the buildings.

Aerospace supply-chain activity is a highlight of this year’s event, adds Farnborough International Chief Executive Shaun Ormrod. “The Farnborough International Airshow still remains an opportunity for manufactures to announce major aircraft orders and showcase their latest hardware. However it’s as much about the networking and engagement the event creates for the supply chain industry witnessed by the 1,500 exhibitors, 71 percent from oversees, that come to Farnborough to do business.”
