Rockwell Collins selects CERTON for weather radar software and electronics hardware validation, verification

MELBOURNE, Fla., 1 Sept. 2016. Rockwell Collins officials have selected CERTON engineers in Melbourne, Florida, to perform software and electronic hardware validation, verification, and tool qualification related to the Rockwell Collins WXR-2100A weather radar.

MELBOURNE, Fla., 1 Sept. 2016. Rockwell Collins officials have selected CERTON engineers in Melbourne, Florida, to perform software and electronic hardware validation, verification, and tool qualification related to the Rockwell Collins WXR-2100A weather radar.

The WXR-2100A Weather Radar system provides conventional weather detection, turbulence detection, and forward-looking windshear detection to enable flight crews to avoid hazardous weather.

CERTON engineers – having demonstrated quality, reliability, and safety-critical systems, software, and electronic hardware engineering expertise – will be responsible for writing, debugging, and reviewing, running, and analyzing all test cases, test procedures, and test results for validation and verification of the weather radar antenna unit, digital receiver, and antenna controller, officials say.

CERTON will maintain rigorous configuration management, process assurance, and traceability between requirements, test cases, test procedures, and test results. This along with all other activities and deliverable documentation will ensure the weather radar product has the outputs and artifacts in place to support software, electronic hardware, and tool qualification approvals according to DO-178C, DO-254, and DO-330 guidelines and objectives.

CERTON will leverage our demonstrated expertise in safety-critical engineering and direct experience on the RTA-4218 Weather Radar to work directly with Rockwell Collins to obtain approval for both the airborne software and electronic hardware on the WXR-2100A Weather Radar product,” says Justin Schanck, corporate project manager at CERTON. “In addition, our proficiency with tool qualification activities is another way CERTON brings value to our customers and we look forward to a continued successful relationship with Rockwell Collins.”
