HUNTSVILLE, Ala.Abaco Systems is demonstrating an advanced prototype of a very small form factor (SFF), rugged, mission-ready system for graphics applications based on the new NVIDIA Jetson TX2 system on a module.

The new system is optimized for minimal size, weight, power consumption, and cost (SWaP-C), and designed for use in compute-intensive applications in harsh environments, such as autonomous unmanned vehicles and robotic systems. Other target applications include graphics generation, moving maps, and vision computing, powering such capabilities as feature tracking, object tracking, and image stabilization.

Abaco officials at an NVIDIA event presented its proof of concept for a SFF graphics computer based on the new NVIDIA Jetson TX2-based GC1000 credit card-size platform. The demonstration included deep learning/inferencing, computer vision, and advanced image processing applications that leverage the capabilities of NVIDIA’s leading-edge GPU technology, officials say.

Abaco’s new product – codenamed “Elroy” – is a complete, integrated, mission-ready system that will be launched in 2Q17 to deliver full-feature functionality to deploymentd in a broad range of environments.

The Jetson TX2 system on module is the latest NVIDIA AI computing platform for GPU-accelerated parallel processing for embedded systems.

Abaco is a preferred NVIDIA partner and part of NVIDIA’s Jetson TX2 early access program, enabling the company to create a solution that leverages the significant capabilities of Jetson TX2 while accelerating time to market.

“Our unique relationship with NVIDIA has been at the heart of a long line of Abaco solutions that take advantage of the world’s leading graphics technology,” says Mrinal Iyengar, vice president of product management at Abaco Systems. “We were privileged to be at the Jetson TX2 launch, showcasing what that relationship makes possible – a mission-ready graphics system that delivers significantly more capability than today’s solutions, in a product that is around half the size and weight of those solutions.”

With more than 30 years’ experience, Abaco Systems is a global provider of open architecture computing and electronic systems for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. The company delivers and supports open modular solutions to upgrade and enhance the growing data, analytics, communications, and sensor processing capabilities of target applications. This, together with our 800+ professionals’ unwavering focus on our customers’ success, reduces program cost and risk, allows technology insertion with affordable readiness, and enables platforms to reach deployment sooner and with a lower total cost of ownership, officials say.
