U.S. Air Force taps Raytheon to modernize operations center, improve air and space command and control

HAMPTON, Va. Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN) in Hampton, Virginia, is hiring system architects, software developers, cyber engineers, IT help desk, and other personnel to help fulfill a new six-year contract valued at up to $375 million from U.S. Air Force Materiel Command officials to sustain and modernize the Air and Space Operations Center Weapon System (AOC WS).

Under the contract, Raytheon will update the existing AOC WS baseline software and develop and deploy new software upgrades to improve air and space command and control operations.

Air and Space Operations Centers provide a strategic capability for the U.S. Air Force. Operators at 22 global locations use the AOC WS for aircraft command and control through all critical Air Force missions. Air Force Materiel Command officials at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, manage research, development, acquisition, test, and logistics services that keep Air Force weapon systems and warfighters ready for combat.

Advanced layered sensing, command and control and cyber technologies are anticipated to be important contributors to future Air Force capabilities.
