EL SEGUNDO, Calif. Officials at Viva Aerobus, a low-cost airline in Mexico with one of the highest growth rates in Latin America, taking fleet expansion and Airbus A320 commercial aircraftmodernization to the next level with a new cloud-based Flight Data Analysis (FDA) Service from Teledyne Controls in El Segundo, California. The cloud-based service delivers essential flight data and actionable intelligence to help Viva Aerobus achieve even higher standards of aircraft safety, reliability, and performance.

Viva Aerobus is currently renovating the entire platform of its systems, moving towards cloud-based software applications and taking advantage of the benefits of the Internet of things (IoT). “The technology that Teledyne provides meets both of these goals and is in line with our company strategy,” added Eduardo Leon.

Teledyne Control’s scalable Service, which collates, analyzes, reports, and presents information on an airline’s operation in a series of customizable dashboards, allows for a faster and more effective identification of events, officials say.

“With an array of tools and applications that includes event detection, full-flight measurements, and interoperability with commercially-available air safety reporting products, Teledyne’s FDA Services provides the Viva Aerobus team with a range of valuable data in an aggregate format that more managers and users can share, absorb and benefit from,” says Elizabeth Cordova Solis, international sales and services manager for Teledyne Controls. “It provides valuable insights into the performance of individual aircraft and the entire fleet that is clearly presented and easy to understand.”

Viva Aerobus is the first customer in Mexico to subscribe to Teledyne Controls’ FDA Services, and the third in the Latin America & Caribbean region.

“The flight data provided by Teledyne FDA Services allows us to enhance our high standards of safety and reliability when flying in one of the most modern fleets of the world. Adopting FDA Services is part of our renewed customer focus on ensuring the safety and welfare of our passengers,” explains Eduardo León, IT director for Viva Aerobus.

Teledyne provides a secure workspace with high-speed connectivity, redundancy, and backup features to ensure all data is protected but can be quickly and easily accessed by authorized users.

Users of the new FDA Services have a range of modules from which to choose including: Safety Analysis (events frequency and segment capture); Data Collection Analysis (media health and missing media); Approach and Landings Analysis; Warnings Analysis (GPWS, TCAS, etc.); and Fuel Analysis. Additional analysis modules can be developed to meet an operator’s specific needs.

Viva Aerobus has been working with Teledyne Controls since 2014; its entire fleet is equipped with Teledyne’s proven Flight Data Interface Management Unit (FDIMU), recognized as an industry standard for data acquisition on Airbus single aisle and long range aircraft.

Viva Aerobus also uses Teledyne Controls’ Wireless GroundLink Comm+ hardware for wireless data transmission, giving the airline near real-time insight to the operational and performance data from each flight as soon as the aircraft has landed.

“Signing this FDA Services agreement is the next step in expanding our current business relationship and offers Viva Aerobus a ‘one stop shop’ with our suite of solutions,” says Cordova Solis. “This agreement strengthens the bond and collaboration between both companies.”

Viva Aerobus is Mexico's low-cost airline. It started operations in 2006 and today operates the youngest Latin American fleet with 21 Airbus 320, including two A320neo on 67 routes and 30 different destinations. With a clear vision to give all people the opportunity to fly, Viva Aerobus has democratized the airline industry with the lowest rates in México and the lowest costs in Latin America, making their flights the best value offer.
