Comtech wins $4.2 million contract to provide Blue Force Tracking aviation satellite communication transceivers

GERMANTOWN, Md. Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp., part of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.’s (Nasdaq:CMTL) Government Solutions segment in Germantown, Maryland, won a five-year, firm fixed price (FFP), indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) $4.2 million contract to provide Blue Force Tracking (BFT-1) satellite communications (SATCOM)-based aviation terminals to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).

GERMANTOWN, Md. Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp., part of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.’s (Nasdaq:CMTL) Government Solutions segment in Germantown, Maryland, won a five-year, firm fixed price (FFP), indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) $4.2 million contract to provide Blue Force Tracking (BFT-1) satellite communications (SATCOM)-based aviation terminals to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).

Comtech will deliver its AVX-06-203 Aviation Satellite Communication Transceivers under this new contract. The company also previously won a $42.7 million contract to provide sustainment support for the BFT-1 program.

Satellite communications support

CMDC aviation and vehicle satellite transceivers are designed to meet satellite on-the-move (SOTM) and beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) communication requirements. The company’s aviation, ground vehicle, integrated, and embedded systems are used for blue force tracking (BFT), command and control, and situational awareness applications.

CMDC sells equipment that operates over all commercial L-band satellites, ideal for operations where security is a requirement. L-band offers superior performance in rain, snow, and fog, officials say. All data including headers are encrypted end-to-end; aviation systems and backhaul links are FIPS 140-2 validated. Over-the-Air Re-key (OTAR) provides security management and compromise recovery. Current features include flexible/higher data rates, full duplex, and improved encryption.
