Hiawatha, Iowa. Crystal Group, a designer and manufacturer of rugged, high-reliability computer hardware, is introducing the RCS5516FW Rugged Network Firewall designed to secure and protect networks in harsh environments.

The RCS5516FW is a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) firewall based on the Cisco 5516 Adaptive Security Appliance with eight integrated ethernet 10/100/1000BASE-T(x) copper ports encased in a military-grade rugged chassis. The new product supports Cisco FirePOWER services, offers 1.8 Gbps maximum throughput, provides up to 250,000 concurrent sessions, and handles up to 20,000 new connections per second.

Crystal Group RCS5516FW Rugged Firewall features 8-port copper connectivity for firewall functionality and cybersecurity protection of field-based networks located in harsh environments.

The RCS5516FW features an all-aluminum chassis and is available in either a standard 19-inch rack mount or transit case EIA form factor. The 1U firewall can be mounted using Delrin glides, or as a fixed mount (front and rear). The unit measures under 13 inches deep, weighs 14 pounds, and is engineered to MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 with EMI, humidity, vibration, and shock kits available.

The RCS5516FW is specifically designed to provide reliable, high-performance connectivity for cybersecurity protection, secure communication, remote monitoring, and maintenance in situations where security, quality, reliability, low power consumption, and long-term availability are important.

Crystal Group Inc., a provider of rugged computer hardware, specializes in the design and manufacture of custom and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) rugged servers, embedded computing, networking devices, displays, power supplies, and data storage for high reliability in harsh environments. An employee-owned small business founded in 1987, Crystal Group provides the defense, government and industrial markets with in-house customization, engineering, integration, configuration management, product lifecycle planning, warranty, and support services.

Crystal Group products meet or exceed IEEE, IEC, and military standards (MIL-STD-810, 167-1, 461, MIL-S-901); are backed by warranty (5+ year) with in-house support; and are manufactured in the company’s Hiawatha, Iowa, USA, facility certified to AS9100C:2009 and ISO 9001:2008 quality management standards.
