Intel mini UAS swarm sets Guinness World Record, brings UAV light show to Las Vegas Strip at CES

CES, LAS VEGAS. Hundreds of Intel Shooting Star Mini unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly called drones, made history at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. One hundred of Intel’s mini UAS performed an indoor drone light show, setting a new Guinness World Records title for the most unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) airborne simultaneously from a single computer indoors. Intel also brought the first UAS light show to the Las Vegas Strip with a fleet of 250 Intel Shooting Star UAS lighting up the sky nightly integrated with the Fountains of Bellagio to a licensed rendition of the song “Stargazing” by artist Kygo.

The Intel Shooting Star Mini UAS is the Intel’s first unmanned aircraft designed and built from the ground up to enable indoor light show experiences. It is designed with safety and creativity in mind with a super-lightweight structure and propeller guards. Its light source can create more than four billion color combinations designed for visually stunning aerial displays.

This drone is the counterpart to the Intel Shooting Star UAS that has been illuminating the night skies around the world at music festivals like Coachella, marquee sporting events, celebrations across Asia and more. The new Intel Indoor Location System powering the Intel Shooting Star Mini UAS expands Intel’s possibilities for entertainment by allowing the drones to maintain position and navigate indoors without GPS to create beautiful UAS light shows.

Intel previously set a Guinness World Records title when the company flew 500 Intel Shooting Star drones simultaneously on 7 Oct. 2016, outdoors in Hamburg, Germany. In doing so, Intel beat its own previous record of 100 drones in less than a year.

Intel is collaborating with partners to create new indoor entertainment experiences with the Intel Shooting Star Mini system.

Intel brought the first UAS light show to the Las Vegas Strip with twice nightly performances at the iconic Fountains of Bellagio during CES 2018. These light shows mark the first time that UAS have flown over the famous Fountains of Bellagio. Intel has created an entirely new entertainment concept by producing UAS-based light shows featuring hundreds of Intel Shooting Star drones all controlled by one pilot. These drones are custom-built for entertainment purposes with a lightweight structure and emits more than four billion color combinations.
