HAI HELI-EXPO, LAS VEGAS.Cobham SATCOM in Lyngby, Denmark, is demonstrating its AVIATOR SP (Special Purpose) range of ruggedized satellite communications (SATCOM) devices developed specifically for helicopters at Helicopter Association International’s (HAI’s) Heli-Expo conference and expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cobham’s new SATCOM systems support Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband service for satellite communications that is critical for special applications ranging from firefighting to military helicopter applications. The Cobham solutions also offer in-flight connectivity for access to the Internet, e-mail, and Internet Protocol (IP) voice calls, and can support video streaming, video conferencing, and aerial surveillance.

AVIATOR SP systems are robust and ruggedized to meet enhanced requirements to environmental specifications. The rain-fade resistant SATCOM units have extended qualifications for helicopter vibrations and non-pressurized environments, and they withstand wider temperature ranges, officials say.

Available in single or multichannel configurations, AVIATOR SP has a small component footprint, a variety of mounting options, and Cobham’s compact antennas that are qualified for helicopter installation.

Cobham’s SP SATCOM solutions have been proven and tested in a variety of helicopter applications, with installations on the Mi-8 for forward-looking infrared (FLIR) imagery and communication, the AW101 and EH101 for ‘Office in the Sky’ services, the UH-60 Blackhawk for military connectivity, and the Bell 407 for FLIR video and communication.

The range encompasses single-channel systems featuring speeds up to 432 kilobits per second (Kbps), enabling L-band SATCOM on even the most space-restricted aircraft. The multichannel systems offer the highest performance available on SwiftBroadband at up to 1,600Kbps. The systems include a choice of Cobham High Gain Antenna or the IGA-5001 Intermediate Gain Antenna.

Cobham is exhibiting in booth C1334 during HAI Heli-Expo.

The Cobham SATCOM AVIATOR SP single-channel system includes the HLD-7260.

Cobham satellite and radio communication terminals perform in the most challenging and remote environments on land, at sea, and in the air, officials say. They design and manufacture high-performance products under the AVIATOR, EXPLORER, SAILOR, and Sea Tel brands providing customers with outstanding performance, value, and support through our global sales and service network.

Cobham offers a range of technologies and services to solve challenging problems in commercial, defense, and security markets, from deep space to the depths of the ocean. The challenging and rewarding roles we offer, across a wide range of disciplines, are what make Cobham a true global technology and services leader.
