EAST AURORA, N.Y. Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES), a wholly owned subsidiary of Astronics Corp. (NASDAQ:ATRO), in Kirkland, Washington, has achieved its first line-fit certification for the company’s new EmPowerUltraLite in-seat passenger power system on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for TUI Airlines.

The EmPower UltraLite system is a new, lightweight architecture providing high-output USB power for passenger use without the need for a power supply unit installed at each seat group to help facilitate a lower-cost, lower-weight system compared to traditional, seat-group-based architectures.

The UltraLite system is now a line-fit solution on any Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, and expected to be available for Airbus aircraft in the third quarter of 2018.

TUI Airlines is the line-fit launch customer for the new UltraLite system. The installation went flawlessly and the system is performing well, says said Dennis Markert, director of business development at Astronics AES.
