LONDON -- The United Kingdom Aerospace Research and Technology (UKART) Programme is calling for parties working in the U.K.'s civil aerospace sector to submit expressions of interest for the funding of innovative aircraft-related projects.

UKART -- a public/private collaboration between Innovate UK, the Aerospace Technology Institute, and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy -- is targeting several areas through this round of grants, including:

  • Advanced systems;
  • Propulsion technologies;
  • Aerostructures; and
  • Whole aircraft design and integration.

The goal of the program is to "maintain and grow the U.K.'s competitive position in civil aerospace," the government said, with project costs and durations to "be appropriate and in proportion to the planned objectives and prioritization within the UK Aerospace Technolgoy Strategy."

UKART said it will fund between 50 and 100 percent of an applicant's request, depending on the size and nature of the organization, though applicants must be based in and perform their work the U.K.

UKART will begin accepting applications August 6, with grant recipients to be announced September 7.
