The Intelligent Aerospace take:

November 30, 2018 - Because international travel requires a passport - and thus, a relatively recent photo - the use of biometric face scanning technology takes advantage of something that is a lot harder to fake than a photo ID or passport. While the time saved by an individual passenger at the gate isn't all that great - Delta estimates nine minutes per flight will be, and that will no doubt add up to some significant time at the world's busiest airport. Harsfield-Jackson also has CT bag scanners, which allows travelers to keep electronics in their bags as TSA agents will get a 3D rendering of all of the luggage's contents. Hopefully both biometric scanning for identity and CT scanning for contents will be widely adopted to make the stress of flying a little lower.
