TSA: Screeners calling out for financial reasons

WASHINGTON - TSA confirmed Wednesday that workers aren’t in fact “calling out sick” — they’re calling out because of financial trouble. “It’s not a sick out, officers aren’t pretending to be sick. They are saying they cannot afford to work for free any longer,” Administrator David Pekoske said. The latest stats, from Tuesday, show 6.1 percent of the workforce had unscheduled absences, compared with 3.7 percent at the same time last year, reports Sam Mintz for Politco.

January 17, 2019-The announcement by the TSA that its security officers calling out because of economic hardship is acknowledging the obvious, but it may help stop the partial government shutdown. The Washington Post's Robert Costa Tweeted on Tuesday that "“Couple senior Republican lawmakers tell me the only way this breaks open is if TSA employees stay home and Americans get furious about their flights. That’s the only out, they say.”
