American Airlines to cancel 90 flights a day due to grounded 737 Max planes

CHARLOTTE, N.C., - American Airlines is extending flight cancellations through April 24 due to having to ground 24 Boeing 737 Max aircraft in its fleet. American said Sunday about 90 flights per day will be canceled based on the April schedule. “By proactively canceling these flights, we are able to provide better service to our customers with availability and rebooking options,” a statement from American says, according to Amanda Harris of the Charlotte Observer.

March 25, 2019-While Boeing says that it plans to have a software update for the grounded 737 MAX passenger aircraft ready to deploy by the end of March, American Airlines is extending its planned flight cancellations through the next month. American has 24 MAX jets in its fleet, and as a result, approximately 90 flights per day will be canceled until the jets can resume flying for the carrier.

The Boeing jets were grounded by the FAA and other U.S. agencies following other nations previously doing the same in the aftermath of the second deadly crash involving that model in fewer than six months. In October, a Lion Air flight in Indonesia crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all on board. A similar crash took place in Ethiopia earlier this month.
