Chinese automaker Geely's Aerofugia unit unveils its UAM AE200 UAM aircraft
MACAU, China - Aerofugia, a Chinese electric aviation company under automaker Geely, unveiled its AE200 urban air mobility (UAM) at the BEYOND International Science and Innovation Expo on 10 May in the Chinese autonomous region of Macau. Dr. Guo Liang, CEO and Chief Scientist of Aerofugia, attended the event and delivered a speech where he emphasized Aerofugia's commitment to integrating technological innovation with practical applications.Â
The Aerofugia AE200 is a 5-6 seat tilt-rotor electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developed in accordance with airworthiness standards. It is designed to be a zero-emission, low-noise and high-frequency commercial operations within urban clusters and between cities. New Atlas reports that the AE200 has "a broad, top-mounted wing, and four long propulsion pods, each with a propeller at each end. The front bank of props is capable of tilting fully horizontal for cruise flight, and the inner two pods are connected by a rear wing and extend back into vertical tail fins."
As a groundbreaking urban air mobility (AAM) solution, the AE200 offers notable safety and cleanliness features and is economically viable. It has garnered strong support from governments worldwide and is poised to serve the diverse travel demands within and between cities in the future. Aerofugia, which is at the forefront of China's electric aviation industry, possesses exceptional capabilities in aircraft development, system integration and civil aviation certification experience.
In August 2022, Aerofugia showcased its full-scale electric vertical take-off and landing technology and received the first acceptance notification for the qualification of manned eVTOL models in China in November. Now, Aerofugia's independently developed AE200 has completed its maiden flight and initiated the qualification process under the guidance of regulatory authorities.
