United Airlines pauses Starlink access after reporting interference concerns
CHICAGO - United Airlines' plans to retrofit its entire regional fleet with Starlink connectivity have hit a roadblock, at least temporarily.
United first started rolling out Starlink access using a free-with-ads model in May, becoming one of a select club—including Hawaiian Airlines and the boutique air carrier JSX—to offer flyers access to SpaceX’s satellite broadband service. Its speed and performance proved a hit with PCMag when it debuted, and United announced plans to install Starlink in its entire two-cabin regional fleet by the end of 2025, Will McCurdy writes for PC Mag. The Military & Aerospace Electronics take:
11 June 2025 - Starlink has been temporarily disabled on nearly two dozen United Airlines Embraer E175 jets due to radio interference between Starlink antennas and pilot communication systems, PC Mag reports. United confirmed the issue, calling it a common challenge with new in-flight Wi-Fi systems, and emphasized there’s no risk to flight safety. Fixes have already been applied to about a third of the affected aircraft, with the rest to be addressed during scheduled maintenance—no flight cancellations are expected.
