Teledyne Controls earns FAA approval for eADL XS on Airbus A320 family

Sept. 18, 2025
FAA approval clears the way for Teledyne’s next-generation Airborne Data Loader to support Airbus A320 fleets, offering secure wireless dataloading, faster updates, and simplified integration.

Summary points:

  • The system is already certified on Boeing 737NG aircraft.
  • eADL XS meets ARINC 645-1 secure dataloading standards with wireless capability and signature validation.
  • Designed as a drop-in replacement, it supports both ARINC 615A and 615-4 formats.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated in El Segundo, Calif., has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval for its enhanced Airborne Data Loader, eADL XS, on Airbus A320 family aircraft, including the A318, A319, A320, and A321. The system is already certified for use on the Boeing 737NG series.

The eADL XS is designed to streamline avionics software updates and configuration management across fleets. Built to meet ARINC 645-1 secure dataloading requirements, the system incorporates wireless transfer, validation of digital signatures, secure boot processes, and an intuitive interface. Teledyne says these features help ensure the integrity of software parts, guard against unauthorized access, and reduce maintenance downtime.

"This new STC approval marks a major milestone in our mission to deliver faster, more secure, and flexible data loading solutions for our airline customers, enabling them to modernize their legacy fleets to meet today's stringent security standards," said Mehrdad Radmehr, president of Teledyne Controls.

Drop-in

Teledyne said the approval allows both commercial and cargo operators to equip A32X aircraft with the system, supporting a wide range of avionics configurations. The eADL XS serves as a drop-in replacement for legacy dataloaders, simplifying the upgrade process. It supports both ARINC 615A over Ethernet and ARINC 615-4 loading capabilities, enabling it to handle a broader range of software formats with greater speed and efficiency.

The solution also integrates with Teledyne’s ground-based distribution platforms such as LSE 3, allowing airlines to manage automatic wireless distribution of software parts, configuration control, and fleetwide reporting. By reducing reliance on outdated methods such as floppy disks and manual loading, the eADL XS enables faster fleet upgrades and lowers maintenance labor requirements.

Teledyne Controls, part of Teledyne Technologies’ Aerospace & Defense Electronics segment, develops avionics and data management solutions for airlines, airframers, and military operators worldwide. The company said the new system demonstrates its focus on secure, scalable, and future-ready connectivity solutions.
