MONTREAL - Bombardier Inc. in Montreal, Quebec, announced that its Global 8000 business jet has received Transport Canada type certification, clearing the way for entry into service later this year. Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The certification marks a milestone for the Global 8000 program, which has achieved several performance benchmarks in recent months. The aircraft went supersonic in testing, completed its first production flight in May, and recently confirmed a new top speed of Mach 0.95. It also boasts a cabin altitude at 2,691 feet while cruising at 41,000 feet, a figure Bombardier claims is the lowest in the industry.

Features

The Global 8000 is powered by two GE Passport turbofan engines, each providing about 18,920 pounds of thrust. The engines are designed for efficiency, reduced emissions, and quiet operation. The aircraft’s flight deck features the Collins Aerospace Vision system, based on the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite, which includes four large displays, fly-by-wire controls, and both enhanced and synthetic vision capabilities to improve situational awareness and safety.

"Bombardier has worked rigorously and collaboratively with Transport Canada toward certification for the Global 8000," said Stephen McCullough, senior vice president of engineering and product development at Bombardier. "This marks a pivotal milestone for Bombardier, our customers, and the entire business aviation industry, solidifying the Global 8000’s position as the unrivaled leader setting a new standard."

The Global 8000 is also designed for long-range performance, capable of flying 8,000 nautical miles nonstop, more than any other four-zone business jet, according to the company. It can reach Mach 0.95 and take off or land on shorter runways than other large business aircraft.
