NASHUA, N.H. – Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace have recognized Pleora Technologies Inc. in Kanata, Ontario, as a platinum-level winner in the publications' 2020 Innovators Awards for the company's RuggedCONNECT smart video switcher.

The device can help increase intelligence, awareness, and safety while reducing cognitive burden for military vehicle crew members. Manufacturers can design standards-compliant vehicles that are rapidly deployable, mission configurable, and cost-effective.

The scalable platform can help implement advanced and future capabilities like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and new sensors to increase mission effectiveness with minimum integration effort.

The RuggedCONNECT smart video switcher acquires and processes data from several cameras and sensors into a standardized feed that transmits over a low-latency, multicast Gigabit Ethernet network to processors and displays for vehicle-based local situational awareness and driver vision enhancer applications.

The RuggedCONNECT integrated standalone device acquires, processes, and displays real-time video sensor data for vehicle-based local situational awareness (LSA) and driver vision enhancer (DVE) applications.

The 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Innovators Awards are to recognize products as solutions to difficult aerospace and defense systems design challenges. The awards are in three tiers: platinum, gold, and silver. The awards were announced on 7 Sept. 2020.

RuggedCONNECT includes eight analog composite inputs supporting RS-170/NTSC/PAL or 2 HD-SDI video inputs and two independent HD-SDI single link displays. Support for Gigabit Ethernet Vision and Def Stan 00-082 streaming protocols on dual 1-gigabit-per-second Ethernet channels make it suitable for networked, open-standard, and interoperable video management systems per GVA, NGVA, and VICTORY standards.

The RuggedCONNECT uses Pleora’s distributed video architecture to enable systems designer to network several units together to create large-scale video switching systems with different video input/output combinations.

Combining the high-performance networking capabilities of RuggedCONNECT with an NVIDIA graphics processing unit, designers can add artificial intelligence (AI)-based image processing and graphics overlay decision-support capabilities to reduce cognitive burden and increase mission effectiveness.

The compute power of the NVIDIA GPU supports applications such as AI and machine learning, image fusion, 360-degree stitching, map and terrain overlay, and image enhancement.

The configurable RuggedCONNECT architecture enables fast development to address various sensor and display interfaces, such as HD-SDI, VGA, or custom sensor/display requirements.

This same architecture enables Pleora to add more interfaces, support a different mix of interfaces, additional network interfaces, and general communications ports.
