MPB Communications Inc. in Montreal is introducing a mini-amplifier called the EOA-xs with built-in transient control. The amplifier is pumped by an uncooled laser to provide low power consumption, and has built-in intelligence for stand-alone operation in ACC/APC and AGC modes. The EOA-xs amplifier uses conventional Erbium fiber which preserves the optical features saturated output up to 20 dBm, small signal gain greater than 30 dB, and a noise figure less than 3.5 dB. The embedded firmware allows the user to control and monitor pump current, optical power levels, operation mode, protection, and alarm thresholds. The EOA-xs is for making up for unexpected loss in an optical transmission system, or for newly developing single- or multichannel systems. For more information contact MPB online at www.mpbc.ca.
