Officials at Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Stratford, Conn., needed a sunlight-readable display for their S-92 Helibus helicopter. They found the technology they were looking for from Sanders, a Lockheed Martin Company in Nashua, N.H.
This S-92 display system consists of four multifunction 6-by-8-inch active-matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCDs).
"We liked it for its brightness and cross-cockpit reading capability," says Ken Kelly, vice president of the S-92 Helibus program at Sikorsky. The pilot can call up the co-pilot`s information on his own display and vice-versa, he says.
Users can configure the Sanders integrated cockpit display subsystem with as many as five AMLCDs and one or two mission computers. The lightweight, high- resolution displays provide primary flight information, aircraft and engine status information, and navigation/weather radar data. An optional display is available for sensor information, such as moving map or forward-looking infrared data. - J.M.
