SAN DIEGO — The COTScon West 2001 conference and exhibition is adding a panel discussion that centers on how the military electronics procurement rules have evolved since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
COTScon West, which is Dec. 4 and 5 in San Diego, is adding the panel discussion and other show-floor events in response to the big push for reconnaissance, surveillance, and counter-terrorism technologies that are spearheading the anti-terrorist war in Afghanistan.
The panel discussion, which will involve industry experts who will be hand-picked at the COTScon West show, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the conference hall of the San Diego Concourse in San Diego. Also featured on the show floor will be a demonstration of the Soft Wave Radio by DNA Computer Solutions.
COTScon West 2001, the seventh of PennWell's COTScon programs, is for engineers, engineering managers, program managers, executive managers, prime contractors, subcontractors, platform integrators, and subsystems manufacturers.
The COTScon West 2001 keynote address concerns the emerging process of using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software in defense, commercial aviation, and space electronic systems Dec. 4. Gregory E. Saunders, director of the U.S. Defense Standardization Office at Fort Belvoir, Va., is the conference keynote speaker, and will concentrate on the process of moving forward with COTS-based designs, or more to the point, where designers go from here.
One major highlight of the conference will be a detailed presentation of the use of COTS components in the Boeing version of the future Joint Strike Fighter. Of equal importance is a presentation detailing the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Polymorphous Computing Architectures.
Another important panel discussion during the conference featuring well-known industry experts will center on the new wave of switched fabrics and interconnects. Moderator of the panel will be Ray Alderman, executive director of the VME International Trade Association in Scottsdale, Ariz.
