CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, 29 June 2005. Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is offering its Dead Reckoning Augmented GPS Navigation System (DRAGN) that enables soldiers on foot to navigate in cities and dense foliage when Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) signals are weak or blocked.
DRAGN integrates the company's GPS technology with inertial sensor technology developed by Heerbrugg, Switzerland-based Vectronix AG. The inertial sensors track movement from the last confirmed position until the GPS signal is restored. This provides dismounted troops with continuous position information.
The company announced DRAGN June 21 at the WBR Soldier Technology Conference in Brussels.
