PARIS, 19 June 2009 Highland Integrated Surveillance Systems Inc. (HISS) in Toronto, Canada, selected MDU-268 avionics-grade mission display units from Barco to be installed aboard thirty helicopters for a customer in the Middle East.
Barco officials made the announcement at the Paris Air Show this week.
Within the scope of this helicopter avionics program, Barco's MDU-268 avionics displays will be combined with an RN6 Digital Map Generator from EuroAvionics to create a sophisticated mission display solution.
"The MDU-268 mission display will present the helicopter crew with a dedicated imaging solution, compatible with FLIR, high-definition daylight video cameras, moving maps, computers, and radar," says Robert Sanders, senior executive over Defense and Avionics Division at Barco. "Moreover, the display sets itself apart with its very compact footprint and low power consumption, which makes it easier for system integrators to integrate the unit in virtually any cockpit or cabin environment."
"The Barco MDU-268 mission display proved to be an ideal solution for this project, not only because of its superior image quality under all conditions, but also because of its easy integration and user-friendly operation," says Mark Pickering, vice president of operations at HISS. "Thanks to the convenient 'on screen display's soft key labeling, operators can rapidly and easily control the RN6 Digital Map and the video inputs by means of the programmable function keys on the bezel."
The MDU-268 is a recent addition to Barco's cockpit display offering, derived from the company's CHDD-2000 family. Equipped with the latest, sunlight-readable AMLCD technology, the 6 by 8 inch display delivers brightness and contrast, as well as a wide viewing angle of 80 degrees in all directions. Because of this, the same unit can be used in portrait as well as landscape mode. The MDU-268 is DO-178B and DO-254 certified.
