TAMPA, Fla., 10 Dec. 2010. U.S. Air Force officials have selected the Really Simple Key Loader (RASKL) electronic key fill device from Sypris Electronics LLC, a subsidiary of Sypris Solutions Inc., as the sole replacement for the aging KYK-13 product. The KYK-13 was formerly used by the Air Force to protect access to its critical secure communications networks.

RASKL will reportedly be the only KYK-13 replacement procured and supported by the Air Force for its tactical users. The U.S. Air Force has been an active participant and partner with Sypris in the development stages of RASKL, says a company spokesperson.

Designed to enhance and protect the warfighter’s mission, RASKL is a modernized electronic key fill product used to load electronic keying data into secure communication equipment. Due to the demanding, tactical environments for which the product was designed, RASKL is ruggedized, small, and lightweight, requires no formal training, and implements a one-button “key squirt” process for loading electronic key. RASKL holds up to 40 modern electronic keys and is depot repairable. RASKL has been certified by the National Security Agency and is available for purchase through an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract with the Department of Defense, as well as through direct sales to applicable and qualifying organizations.

“We have a long and well-established heritage in the development of key management systems that protect our Nation’s interests, both in terms of hardware and software design,” states John Walsh, president of Sypris Electronics. “As we continue to expand our presence in this important market segment, RASKL is expected to be one of many Global Key Management solutions to be launched by Sypris within the next 12 to 18 months.”
