Fiber-to-USB data converter from ESL operates in harsh environments with high EMI and RFI

CRANSTON, R.I., 11 July 2010. Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL) in Cranston, R.I., is introducing a fiber-to-USB converter/extender system to extend USB connections via a high-speed fiber interface for applications in harsh environments subject to high electromagnetic or RF interference that might corrupt USB communications over a copper interface. The Model 4162 host, and the Model 4169 four-port hub paired products is for applications involving PC communications that require high speed, secure communications, and optical isolation. Typical applications include industrial control, KVM extension, remote desktop USB connections, and remote USB device sharing.

Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL) in Cranston, R.I., is introducing a fiber-to-USB converter/extender system to extend USB connections via a high-speed fiber interface for applications in harsh environments subject to high electromagnetic interference or radio frequency interference that might corrupt USB signals over a copper interface.

The Model 4162 host, and the Model 4169 four-port hub paired products is for applications involving PC communications that require high speed, secure communications, and optical isolation. Typical applications include industrial control, KVM extension, remote desktop USB connections, and remote USB device sharing.

These units have software support for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, and support control, interrupt, bulk and isochronous USB device types at speeds as fast as 480 megabits per second.

The Model 4162 and Model 4169 operate in temperatures from 0 to 50 degrees Celsius, have ESD protection circuitry on all copper USB I/O interfaces, and have power inputs that are also protected from transients. The Model 4169, provides the USB standard of 500 milliamps per port.
