Space Force adds commercial software capability to Kronos battle management effort

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Space Force is expanding its use of commercial software capabilities as it develops the Kronos Family of Systems, an effort focused on improving space command and control, battle management and operational decision-making.

Under a Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO) award, True Anomaly in Centennial, Colo., has been selected to provide capabilities from its Mosaic software platform for the Kronos program. The company said Mosaic will support target pairing and asset orchestration functions designed to help operators match available resources with mission requirements in a contested orbital environment.

Kronos is managed within Space Systems Command's (SSC) Battle Management, Command, Control, Communications and Space Intelligence (BMC3I) portfolio. The effort is aligned with System Delta 85 (SYD 85), which SSC established to deliver integrated capabilities supporting space domain awareness, command and control, battle management and space intelligence missions.

The program reflects a broader Space Force effort to modernize how operators collect, process and act on information from increasingly complex space environments. As the populations of commercial and government spacecraft grow and potential threats in orbit become more challenging to characterize, military space operations require faster integration of data from multiple sources and improved decision-support tools.

Integrated architectures

Rather than relying solely on individual mission systems, the Space Force is pursuing more integrated software architectures designed to provide operators with a common operational picture and improve coordination among sensors, networks and space assets.

True Anomaly said Mosaic provides software capabilities for space domain awareness, mission planning, multi-domain battle management and asset orchestration. According to the company, the platform uses artificial intelligence-enabled software to analyze interactions among multiple assets and provide operators with decision-support information.

For the Kronos program, True Anomaly said Mosaic will support large-scale target pairing and asset orchestration. In practical terms, these capabilities are intended to help operators evaluate available resources and determine how assets can be aligned with mission objectives.

The award follows Space Systems Command's broader use of commercial acquisition approaches for Kronos. In April 2026, SSC announced its first Kronos CSO prototype awards, selecting MapLarge and Leidos to provide software capabilities under the program.

SSC has described the Kronos Family of Systems CSO as an effort to acquire innovative software solutions supporting operational command and control and battle management capabilities for space tasking.

The Kronos effort highlights a broader shift in military space operations toward software-defined capabilities, in which data integration, automation, and decision support are becoming increasingly important components of space mission execution.
