ANDOVER, Mass. – Mercury Systems Inc. in Andover, Mass., is introducing the COTS Rugged Edge Server (RES) for demanding aerospace and defense missions.

The RES rugged computers have fourth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors -- formerly known as Sapphire Rapids -- to accelerate compute-intensive edge workloads like artificial intelligence (AI) and sensor fusion.

Mercury’s RES X08 servers support low-latency PCI Express 5.0 fabrics, NVIDIA H100 general-purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs), 400-gigabit-per-second network cards, high-speed DDR5 memory, and Compute Express Link (CXL) expansion in a rugged configurable chassis.

Designed to dissipate thermal loads created by large and powerful components, these rugged servers offer computational performance able to handle the proliferation of sensors on aerospace and defense platforms that has created a tsunami of data that must be processed in real-time.

These rugged servers offer sensor fusion, AI, and high-performance computing for situational awareness, and support integration into retrofit platforms, extended life cycles, manufacturing to AS9100 quality standards, and validation testing for extreme environmental conditions.

The RES X08 delivers 50 percent increased CPU core count over previous generations; six times greater GPU performance; 50 percent increased memory bandwidth; two times faster PCI Express throughput; two times faster optical networking; 1.5 times faster NVMe data storage speeds; 2.5 times increase in total compute capability per rack unit; and 15 percent improved power efficiency.
