Network-attached storage with encryption for data-at-rest on military planes introduced by Curtiss-Wright

ASHBURN, Va. – The Curtiss-Wright Corp. Defense Solutions Division in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the DTS1+ single-slot network-attached storage (NAS) device to store and protect large amounts of data on military aircraft and ground vehicles.

The DTS1+ supports two layers of full disk encryption (FDE) in one device. It can store and protect data on helicopters, jet fighters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft that require the protection of sensitive data-at-rest to international standards.

With data rates of 190 megabytes per second write and 220 megabytes per second read, the DTS1+ also integrates FIPS 140-2 hardware encryption via 128-bit AES-XTS. The compact single-slot Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC)-certifiable DTS1+ also can store as much as 8 terabytes of data per removable memory cartridge.

The DTS1+ weighs 3.77 pounds and measures 1.5 by 5 by 6.5 inches, and supports PXE protocol so that network clients on a vehicle or aircraft can boot quickly from the encrypted files on the DTS1+'s removable memory cartridge.

This approach facilitates software updates for network clients and reduces size, weight, and power consumption by eliminating the need for individual hard disks in each network client.

Curtiss-Wright offers two mounting options, the VS-DTS1+SL-FD, which is designed for cockpit use with DZUS mounting panel, and the VS-DTS1+SL-F, which uses L-brackets to support mounting within space-constrained platforms.

The DTS1+ supports networked devices using heterogeneous operating systems that support industry-standard NAS protocols. The DTS1+ also supports iSCSI protocol for block data storage and PCAP protocol for Ethernet packet capture.
