Agiltron Inc. in Woburn, Mass., is offering the CL Series fiber-optical switches, which are ultra-high-reliability components that passed mil-spec as well as space qualification. The switch connects optical channels by redirecting an incoming optical signal into a selected output fiber, achieved using nonmechanical configurations and activated via a 5-volt electrical pulse. The CL switches have latching operation that preserves the selected optical path after the drive signal has been removed. CL switches also features insertion loss of 0.7 dB per port, switching time of 30 microseconds, and high extinction ratio. These devices are used in short and long haul telecommunications, instrumentation, WAN/PAN as well as satellite, ground-based, airborne, shipboard, and submarine systems.
