Engineers at UTMC Microelectronic Systems Inc. in Colorado Springs, Colo., and at American Microsystems Inc. The UTMC/AMI devices, designed with military applications and commercial satellites in mind, also protect against radiation-induced single-even upset. UTMC, a fabless IC company, developed a minimally invasive processing module for use in AMI`s 0.6-micron commercial foundry process. Pricing will fall between full strategic rad-hard components and specially packaged non rad-hard silicon, company officials say.
