Engineers at GEC Marconi Hazeltine in Wayne, N.J., needed a flexible VMEbus system for various military avionics and shipboard electronics applications. They chose the VME-191 from Logical Design Group in Raleigh, N.C.

"It`s the best for what we want a board to do," says, Ron Buell, engineer at GEC Marconi. "We can run it as a single-slot solution on a PC and put a 1553 MUX card into the box."

The VME-191 provides all of the features of a fully configured PC/AT motherboard, along with additional features such as a built-in Ethernet interface, PMC interface, SCSI-2 interface, SVGA Video, and standard desktop I/O including one parallel and two serial I/O ports, keyboard, and mouse interfaces.

It can also be configured entirely by software, eliminating the need for hardware jumpers. Controlling each card configuration option are programmable non-volatile switches. It also has a metal stiffener on the circuit board to accommodate high levels of shock and vibration. - J.M.
