VME single-board computer manufacturers Ixthos Inc. of Leesburg, Va., and DY 4 Systems of Kanata, Ontario, are merging their companies into what promises to be a formidable digital signal processor (DSP) provider for ruggedized and military applications. DY 4 has had marginal success with its line of Texas Instruments 320C40-based VME DSP boards, but now raises its DSP profile by teaming with Ixthos, which specializes in the militarily popular Analog Devices SHARC DSP. Ixthos will retain its identity, and will be a subsidiary of DY 4, company officials say. DY 4 leaders will take a hands-off approach and let Ixthos officials "do what they do best," says DY 4 Marketing Director Duncan Young. - J.K.
