Thales introduces 3U rugged conduction-cooled CompactPCI embedded computer

RALEIGH, N.C., 29 Aug. 2005. Thales Computers in Raleigh, N.C., is introducing a line of 3U CompactPCI embedded computers, starting with the rugged conduction-cooled PowerEngineC7.

The PowerEngineC7 new single-board computer is for compact, real-time systems for defense, aerospace, industrial, transportation, and communications applications.

"The PowerEngineC7 is a result of combined efforts with several Thales engineering teams with airborne expertise," explains Alain Albarello, general manager of Thales Computers.

The PowerEngineC7 is designed around the PowerPC 750FX, a dual-issue superscalar control processor, operating at 700 MHz. Included is a PMC expansion slot and a dual Ethernet 10/100 port. Flash memory is allocated 64 megabytes for the systems and 128 megabytes for the user.

The 32-kilobyte L1 cache has a 32-byte line, 8-way set associative instruction cache and a 32 kilobyte 32-byte line, 8-way associative data cache. The 1 megabyte internal L2 cache has ECC clocked at processor frequency.

The board's high-speed 256-megabyte DDR SDRAM with ECC supports code execution copied from Flash memory. A predefined area of the memory is protected from the PCI and Ethernet accesses and allows the definition of a dedicated PPC communications area.
