PCI Express media- and video-acceleration card introduced by Emerson Network Power
TEMPE, Ariz., 15 Feb. 2013. Emerson Network Power in Tempe, Ariz., is introducing the PCIE-8120 PCI Express media processing acceleration card to add voice and video to network server applications.
Potential embedded computing applications include session border controllers, media gateways and servers, media resource functions, video or content optimization, video communications servers, and interactive voice and video response systems.
Where a typical commercial Host Media Processing solution is limited to 2000 ports per server, one Emerson Network Power PCIE-8120 card can transcode more than 7000 bidirectional voice channels from G.711 to G.729A. Designers can add several cards to one server for even higher performance, company officials say.
Featuring as many as 12 low-power Octasic digital signal processors (DSPs) with embedded voice or video firmware, the PCIE-8120 also can transcode more than 300 mobile video streams at CIF resolution, and offers support for high-definition video resolutions as fine as 1080 pixels.
The card enables users to add dense, scalable voice and video processing to network applications, while using less space, less power, and at lower cost than the alternative of adding more servers or suffering significantly reduced application performance, Emerson officials say.
