Single-IC rugged MIL-STD-1553 databus interface terminals for extended temperatures introduced by Holt

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., 12 Aug. 2011. Holt Integrated Circuits Inc. in Mission Viejo, Calif., is introducing the HI-6130 and HI-6131 next-generation MIL-STD-1553 avionics databus terminals for avionics redesigns as well as new avionics designs. Each databus interface is packaged in one integrated circuit that includes all necessary logic, memory, and analog interface, Holt officials say.

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., 12 Aug. 2011. Holt Integrated Circuits Inc. in Mission Viejo, Calif., is introducing the HI-6130 and HI-6131 next-generation MIL-STD-1553 avionics databus terminals for avionics redesigns as well as new avionics designs. Each 1553 databus terminal is packaged in one integrated circuit that includes all necessary logic, memory, and analog interface, Holt officials say.

Both devices are available in surface-mount plastic packages and, will be available well into the future, officials say. The Holt MIL-STD-1553 devices are DO-254 certifiable. Standard versions operate in temperatures from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and extended versions operate in temperatures from -55 to 125 C, with lead-free options available.

Features include concurrent operation as many as to four terminals (bus controller, monitor terminal and one or two remote terminals), 64 kilobytes of internal static RAM with optional error detection/correction, a programmable bus controller with a 28 op-code instruction set, simple and BRIG-106 compatible monitor modes, two independent full-function remote terminals, an independent time counter and clock source for each terminal, programmable interrupts, and a built-in self-test of protocol logic, digital signal paths and internal RAM.

The HI-6130 and HI-6131 can be configured for automatic self-initialization, while a dedicated SPI port reads data from an external serial EPROM to configure the internal RAM, registers, and host interrupts.

The HI-6130 uses a 16-bit parallel host bus interface in a 100-pin PQFP package that measures 9 by 9 by 1 millimeters. The HI-6131 uses a 4-wire serial peripheral host interface (SPI) and comes in a 64-pin PQFP and 64-pin QFN. Both devices handle all aspects of the MIL-STD-1553 protocol, including message encoding, decoding, error detection, illegal command detection, and data buffering.
