Rugged 3U OpenVPX single-board computer for mission computing and ISR introduced by GE

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 31 Dec. 2014. GE Intelligent Platforms in Huntsville, Ala., is introducing the SBC314 rugged 3U OpenVPX single-board computer for applications such as mission computing and digital signal processing for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR).

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., 31 Dec. 2014. GE Intelligent Platforms in Huntsville, Ala., is introducing the SBC314 rugged 3U OpenVPX single-board computer for applications such as mission computing and digital signal processing for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR).

The SBC314 offers a choice of multicore processor options for optimum performance per Watt using the Freescale Power Architecture QorIQ AMP (advanced multiprocessing) CPUs.

The embedded computing version with the T1042 4-core e5500-based processor is for environments requiring minimal power consumption, while the board using the T2081 8-virtual core e6500 processor is designed to deliver maximum performance, company officials say.

The board is designed for system upgrades and technology-insertion involving either additional processing capability or reduced size, weight, and power (SWaP).

The SBC314's T2081 processor's e6500 ST core offers as much as 48 billion floating point operations per second, and its AltiVec co-processor also can help with older code bases, such as those developed for the Freescale MPC7448 processor.

The T1042 processor is designed to function at less than 7.5 Watts to enable the SBC314 to operate at less than 20 Watts. The SBC314 also will support VxWorks653 real-time software for systems requiring certification to DO-254 and DO-178.

The SBC314 is available in five air- and conduction-cooled ruggedization levels, and also offers VITA 48 formats for 2-level maintenance requirements. Compatible with OpenVPX (VITA 65), the SBC314 offers several connectivity options via its configurable PCI Express fabric ports.

In addition the SBC314 supports Gigabit Ethernet, COM ports, USB 2.0, SATA, and GPIO. An XMC/PMC capable mezzanine site offers either XMC I/O or PMC I/O routed to the VPX backplane connectors.
