PORTLAND, Ore., 5 Nov. 2012. U.S. Army officials needed electronics and electro-optics technologies with which to better detect and respond to domestic threats. They found their solution at FLIR Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:FLIR) in Portland, Ore.
FLIR Systems won a three-year U.S. Army contract, valued up to $88.3 million, for the procurement of Domestic Response Capability (DRC) kits for National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams. The DRC kit, an integrated suite of sensors and support equipment, will aid in detecting and decontaminating chemical warfare agents and other emerging threats.
Army officials placed an initial order for $26.9 million. Deliveries are to be completed by Dec. 2013.
DRC kits will be produced in FLIR's Elkridge, Md., facility and will combine sensors from several FLIR operations.
