The AN/ALE-47 CMDS is an electronic warfare (EW) self-protection suite that provides combat aircrews with enhanced survivability against surface-to-air and air-to-air missile threats in all environments, by dispensing chaff or flares.

Able to be integrated on virtually any aircraft type, the system provides an integrated, reprogrammable, computer-controlled system to dispense expendables/decoys to enhance aircraft survivability. It dispenses expendables/decoys, by employing electronic and infrared countermeasures according to a program developed and implemented by the aircrew.
