Northrop Grumman reorganizes; finds new business sectors for directed energy, trusted computing, space

Company's four new sectors will replace existing businesses in Aerospace Systems, Innovation Systems, Mission Systems, and Technology Services.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. – Prime defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. in Falls Church, Va., is reorganizing its business sectors into four: Aeronautics Systems, Defense Systems, Mission Systems and Space Systems.

These four new sectors will become effective on 1 Jan. 2020, and will replace the company's four existing sectors: Aerospace Systems, Innovation Systems, Mission Systems, and Technology Services.

This reorganization also involves the retirement of Patrick Antkowiak, corporate vice president and chief strategy and technology officer; and Christopher Jones, corporate vice president and president of Technology Services.

The Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems segment will involve manned and unmanned aircraft, such as the U.S. Air Force RQ-4 Global Hawk large long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the U.S. Navy MQ-4 Trident long-range maritime patrol UAV based on the Global Hawk airframe.

The Defense Systems segment will concern integrated battle command systems, directed energy, laser weapons, tactical weapons, and information systems.

The Mission Systems segment will involve cyber security, trusted-computing, and software-defined systems.

The Northrop Grumman Space Systems segment, meanwhile, will involve space and launch systems.

No details have been released yet on how the company's core enabling technologies and applications will fit into the new business sectors, or where those business sectors will be based.
