Cobham to enhance its UHF SATCOM technologies offerings with acquisition of Trivec-Avant Corp.

Executives of defense giant Cobham plc in Wimborne, England, are boosting their company's expertise in satellite communications (SATCOM) and SATCOM antennas with their agreement to acquire Trivec-Avant Corp. in Huntington Beach, Calif., a supplier of UHF SATCOM antennas. Trivec's SATCOM technology complements that of the Cobham Antenna Systems segment based in Marlow, England, company officials say. Cobham will acquire privately owned Trivec for $126 million cash, and the deal is expected to close this fall.

Cobham will acquire privately owned Trivec for $126 million cash, and the deal is expected to close this fall.Trivec is an expert in SATCOM antennas for communications on the move, such as network-centric warfare. It specializes in UHF SATCOM and steerable technologies for communication in difficult terrain for demanding military and emergency response applications. Trivec offers more than 400 antenna designs for ground, airborne, and maritime applications.Trivec will become part of Cobham Antenna Systems, which is part of the Group's Aerospace and Security Division. Cobham officials say they expect the acquisition should increase sales in the United States and internationally, as well as improving prospects of developing commercial SATCOM systems.
