FALLS CHURCH, Va., 15 June 2011. General Dynamics Corp. in Falls Church, Va., is enhancing the company's expertise in secure wireless networking technology for military and government applications with its acquisition of Fortress Technologies Inc. in Westford, Mass. The General Dynamics C4 Systems segment in Scottsdale, Ariz., will manage the acquired company, company officials say.Fortress Technologies has been a supplier to General Dynamics C4 Systems, and is a member of the General Dynamics-sponsored EDGE Innovation Network, a collaboration of companies specializing in equipment for command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence applications.Fortress Technologies provides wireless technology for the U.S. Army Combat Service Support Automated Information System Interface (CAISI) tactical wireless LAN. CAISI connects brigades, battalions to enhance logistics support for soldiers in the field.
Members of the boards of directors of General Dynamics and Fortress Technologies have approved the acquisition. Financial details of the cash deal were not disclosed. The transaction should close by this fall.
The acquisition is expected to boost the ability of General Dynamics C4 Systems to provide tactical communications equipment and services for military and civil agencies, says Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems. Fortress Technologies will continue selling products to other defense contractors, Marzilli says.
