Elbit to supply remote-control weapon stations with electro-optical payloads for armored combat vehicles
HAIFA, Israel, 8 Dec. 2011. Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ:ESLT) in Haifa, Israel, will supply Lightweight Weapons Stations (LWS) for Israeli armored combat vehicles under terms of an $11 million contract from the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD).Elbit will supply 7.62-millimeter, 12.7-millimeter, and 40-millimeter remote-control weapon stations on Israeli armored personnel carriers (APCs) and armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) over an 18-month period, Elbit officials say.The Elbit Systems Lightweight Weapons Station vetronics features a machine gun or grenade launcher, electro-optical sensors, and remote control from personnel inside the vehicle who are protected behind vehicle armor. Weapons operators inside the vehicles can control weapon aiming, firing, cocking, and jam clearing. The LWS either can operate stand-alone, or can be integrated into the vehicle electronics.
